The China Rural Cooking Competition was held in Baojing County of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture from November 27 to December 1. 42 teams across the country participated in it.

At the event, the “Steamed Lilies with Shrimp” from Shipai Town of Longshan County won the gold award for specialty dishes and received widespread praise.

“First, lilies are cut into lotus leaf shapes after cleaning; and shrimps are minced. Then Steam them with pumpkin juice. The most important step is to add caviar before it is served,” said a chef, who shared the recipe for the dish with tourists while cooking.

Pumpkin juice can neutralize the bitterness of lilies and caviar makes the dish more flavorful.

At the food display site, its exquisite design attracted many tourists to take photos, post on social media, and live stream.

Longshan Lily is a medicinal and edible product that can calm the mind, moisten the lungs, and relieve cough. It is a national geographical indication product and is sold in more than 20 provinces and cities in China.

More than half of the farmers in Shipai Town are engaged in lily cultivation. In recent years, the town has made efforts to extend the lily industry chain and promote the upgrading of lily products to facilitate the high-quality development of the lily industry and bring benefits to more villagers.
